01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Located in the vibrant heart of Kampung Gelam, Port Dickson, Dapo Penyet stands out as a must-visit restaurant for lovers of authentic Malaysian Penyet cuisine. This cozy yet spacious eatery invites diners to relish the rich, comforting flavors of traditional kampung dishes, masterfully prepared and beautifully plated, elevating humble street food into an enjoyable dining experience.

The star of the menu is undoubtedly the Penyet Series, featuring dishes like Udang Penyet – crispy deep-fried prawns paired with silky tauhu, refreshing ulaman (local herbs), and a signature sambal penyet that strikes a welcome balance between fiery and tangy. The Ayam Penyet Biasa, made with a whole fried chicken leg, offers juicy, tender meat encased in a crispy golden skin, served alongside the same fresh accompaniments, making each bite a satisfying contrast of textures and flavors. Another highlight is the Tilapia Penyet, where fried tilapia is served with fluffy white rice and complemented by the restaurant’s unique sambal and ulam, creating a perfectly harmonious plate.

For those seeking variety, the a la carte options like the simple yet delicious Telur Dadar and Telur Mata provide subtle flavors that complement the stronger tastes of the penyet dishes. What truly sets Dapo Penyet apart is their attention to detail—not just in the food, but also in the accompanying sides and the freshness of ingredients.

Dining at Dapo Penyet is more than just a meal; it is an experience. Customers consistently praise the restaurant’s inviting atmosphere: spacious, aesthetically pleasing, and vibrant with a chill vibe that makes it perfect for casual gatherings. The friendly staff, often described as warm and welcoming, contribute to a homely feel that invites you to relax and savor every bite.

The sambal, a crucial element in any Penyet dish, receives mixed but respectful reviews—while some find it more traditional and mild, others appreciate the variation as part of Dapo Penyet’s unique culinary identity. Notably, the presence of uncommon but delightful offerings like their bihun and mee goreng, cooked without the usual kicap, delivers a fresh twist on familiar flavors, surprising and delighting many visitors.

Practical touches, such as free parking and a convenient location on Jalan Air Meleleh, add to the overall customer satisfaction. Whether you’re a local or a traveler seeking authentic Malaysian kampung food with a modern presentation, Dapo Penyet promises a memorable visit filled with hearty flavors, excellent value, and genuine hospitality.

Food is affordable and nice. For me sambal penyet just average but acceptable. I like more flavourful but i understand different kedai different recipes. I respect on that. But for me, bihun and mee goreng is one of kind yg jarang jumpa. They didnt use kicap. Sedap sgt, service and place on top. Very spacious and have variety of food.
